- Space storage: Consistent but incomplete; retains only the final, unique, verifiable result; cannot be overwritten.
- Time storage: Complete but inconsistent; records the entire evolutionary process, including both computable and uncomputable information; constantly updated and hard to fully trace back.
Space is the collapse of time at a given moment—selecting a single result from the full set of process information.
Historical Example
The saying “One general’s success is built on the withered bones of ten thousand soldiers” is often taken to mean sacrifice for victory. From an information perspective:
- Time storage: Contains the complete experiences of the general and all the soldiers.
- Space storage: May preserve only the general’s name, with the soldiers’ stories forgotten.
The vast majority of process information is discarded at the moment of collapse.

- Countless computers try hundreds of millions of nonces—this information exists in time, most of it failed.
- Only one nonce that meets the difficulty requirement is written into the blockchain’s space, permanently verifiable.
Time stores “all attempts,” space stores “the one success.”

- Space storage: Linear, single result, Turing-machine computable.
- Time storage: Parallel, resonant, nonlinear, containing uncomputable information.
